Black Friday!

The day after Thanksgiving is known to be the busiest shopping day of the year. Stores and malls open at 5:00 a.m and people are already lined up outside with camping tents from the night before to get great deals on Holiday gifts. Although it isn't an official holiday, many people are off from work which increases the number of shoppers. This is alone a Wal-Mart employee in Valley Stream, New York was trampled to death by shoppers who broke through the stores window before its scheduled opening time. A pregnant women was also hospitalized from being stampeded by a group of people. These two incidents alone should be the reason for Black Friday to be canceled. I think that all of the sales should only be available online because of the crazy people who go far beyond due to sale prices. Having the sales online would be much more safer and realistic because this country has gone crazy on this day.

Jackie O.

Over the years I have become amazed with the lives of famous icons. One that I have become most infatuated with is Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. President John F. Kennedy’s wife served as the first lady of the White House from 1961-1963.She was not only a fashion icon but a courageous women. Although she was only in the White House for 2 years she made a huge impact on America and the rest of the world. After John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963, Jackie tried her best to move on in life and focus on her children. She tried to hide them from the paparazzi trying to make them have a normal life In 1968 she moved on to marry Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. She has said ”The first time you marry for love, the second for money and the third for companionship”. After Aristotle passed away in 1975 Jackie went on to form a loving companionship with Maurice Tempelsman however they never married. I think Jackie’s life is interesting and kept the entire world looking for more about her life day to day. The quote she has stated seemed to have been true for her lifetime.

Cure for Skin Cancer?

According to Researcher Leif Eriksson's team at Orebo University in Sweden there has been a new drug invented for skin cancer approaching commercialization. It is a drug that is activated by light that can be quick and cheap treatment for millions of people diagnosed with skin cancer. The drug is based on the use of photo-dynamic therapy in cancer treatment. After the cells are reorganized by light, it forms chemical reactions that kills cancer cells. With this new invention patients diagnosed with pre-stages of skin cancer and skin cancer can be quickly treated.

A car that runs on air?

Everyone wants to make this world a better and cleaner place including car companies. We've all heard of the hybrid car but have you heard of a car that runs of air? I didn't think so. How's it possible? It can motor around all day on nothing but air and a splash of salad oil, alcohol or a pint of gasoline. The motor isn't picky about fuel. It will burn gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, ethanol or vegetable oil.Zero Pollution Motors have already sold its right to the Indian carmaker Tata and is starting in the Indian car market. The vehicles will be built in factories that will make up to 8,000 vehicles a year, likely starting in 2011. The starting price will be about $20,000 a price that all America will be happy with.

Dream Playhouse

I have recently read an article about two grandparents that built their granddaughters a Victorian-style playhouse that is located in the front yard of Lorraine and Marvin Smith's home, and took a little less than two years to complete. The playhouse has a bright yellow slide that comes down from the roof deck, into a play area. There is a gazebo to the right that gives a magical, fairytale-like touch. There are closet's on the first floor filled with clothing that Lorraine bought on sale for her granddaughters to play dress up in. The couple bought four dolls, one for each of the youngest granddaughters, that are on top of shelving units. In the laundry room, the girls have a play washer, dryer and iron and a patch-work clothes pin bag that hangs from a hanger. There are stairs lead up to a loft and a purple door that leads to a garage where bikes and other toys are stored. The playhouse looks awesome, I wish I could play in it now!

Life of a Princess

Diana, Princess of Wales, wife of Charles, Prince of Wale was not only a shy, humble wife at first but had a heart to help others. The Princess of Wales didn't just transform herself, she changed a country. Everyone loved Princess Diana. She used her position of power and fame to give hope and comfort to others who weren't as nearly important. The millions of fans she still has will hopefully follow her lead, by giving a smile, open heart, and a helping hand. Princess of Wales is also an important person to me that amazes me, not only because of her power but because of her heart

Halloween Parade

As you know my favorite holiday is Halloween, I think last night changed my opinion on that. I went to the Halloween parade in NYC with my three best friends. We took car service into the city because we knew how crazy the traffic was going to be. It took us and hour to get there when it normally takes 25 minutes. Once we got there we were dropped off by the car service on 8th avenue and West 15th Street and had to walk to 4th avenue and University Place to meet more of our friends. Walking all of those blocks in heels my feet were killing me! The crowds were ridiculous and although there were many police officers I didn't feel safe at all. After only being there for 2 hours I told my friends we should leave and they agreed. Next year I'm definitely staying home!

Teen Queen

Of all time, I am most fascinated with Marie Antoinette. The hair pieces of that time amaze me. During her time period wigs were very popular throughout France. Both men and women in the court wore wigs. Men wore wigs that had curls on the sides and women's wigs were elaborated and high. Wigs were expensive during those times so most royalty and others in higher society wore them. Some even wore expensive materials in their wigs such as gems, precious metals, feathers, silk and other objects. I wish I could have lived back then!

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!

The girl band “The Spice Girls” consisted of five young ladies that sang and danced, and whose audience ranged from little girls to moms and dads. The Spice Girls were an instant hit, due to their pop music and unique sense of style. The five British natives were all different in their own ways, but together they sounded like a symphony. Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby became the most popular girl band from their hit “Spice Up Your Life”. People of all ages idolized them and their music. Their pop culture consisted of music that emphasized friendship and love, and the lyrics were catchy which fans could relate to. The rise in the Spice Girls popularity was due to their innocent attitudes, their distinctive style and their music. People idolized the Spice Girls because of their pure image; they were five young and fabulous women with amazing voices. Still till this day, I LOVE THE SPICE GIRLS!

Hybrid Cars

Hybrid cars are automobiles that utilizes a gasoline powered motor and an electric motor as two sources of power for its movement. Other forms of transportations such as bicycles, roller blades and scooters are examples of hybrid transportation. The hybrid car has the advantages of both gas and electric cars and puts them together. As hybrid cars are produced in the U.S., they could reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Hybrid cars have a considerably high quantity of gas mileage, which means you would be saving a ton of money on gas.Aside from all the positive benefits of hybrid cars, there are some negatives as well. Many seem to think there are problems not found yet within the hybrid car because it is “new technology”. Hybrid cars tend to be higher priced such as up to $5,000 more than a regular version car. Between spending money on gas for a regular car and paying more for the hybrid there really isn’t much of a big difference between the two regarding money. So when you are choosing between the regular gasoline car and a hybrid car, carefully research before you make your choice! I personally would rather all of America to own Hybrid cars because it is better for the environment.

Pink Berry or Red Mango?

Pink Berry is a fat-free frozen yogurt chain throughout the world and United Sates. The frozen yogurt is available in two flavors, original (vanilla) and green tea. The store carries a variety of toppings including Fruity Pebbles cereal, Captain Crunch, sprinkles, cookies and cream, granola, strawberries, raspberries, banana's and many other treats. I love to drive into the city just to have one! The other day when I went to Pink Berry I noticed another frozen yogurt chain right across the street that looked very similar to Pink Berry. It was called Red Mango. I went into the store and it had the exact set up as Pink Berry with the same flavored frozen yogurts and all the same toppings. I asked the man at the counter what the difference was between the two and he said that Red Mango was a healthier alternative because it was 100% all-natural. Since then I will only eat Red Mango. I guess thats why they didn't post the nutrition facts!

They say we're in an "energy crisis"...

An alternative fuel is any fuel other than gasoline or diesel. Since many alternative fuels are also renewable, and can be produced in the U.S., they could reduce our dependence on foreign oil. There is a big difference between "energy" and "fuel" even though the terms are used together. It is often said that we are in an "energy crisis" however, this isn't accurate. Energy exists all around us in many different forms. The problem is that energy needs to be stored and transported as fuel. Technically speaking we should be talking about a "fuel shortage", not an "energy crisis".

"No Standing"

My younger brother Justin attends Xavier High School in Manhattan, NY. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday I get out of school by 12 p.m and drive to the city to pick him up from school. I thought that since I get out of school early I should save him the trouble of taking the NYC train home since he takes it home everyday and gets home about 4:30 p.m. Today I was extremely tired and had to push myself to drive to Manhattan to pick him up. While I was waiting outside of his school for him I was standing in a "No Standing" zone. A police officer knocked on my window and told me I was going to get a ticket,in a frenzy, I put my car in drive and was about to drive away when he said "No, here's your ticket". I was so angry that the police officer didn't even give me a chance to move the car. I thanked him for giving me the ticket! After waiting 20 minutes for my brother and circling the block so I wouldn't get another ticket, I called my brother and got no answer. I called my brother about 50 times in about 2 minutes, still no answer. My brother finally called me back to ask me what I wanted and told me he was on the train on his way home. I was so furious at my brother because I knew he knew I was picking him up. That's not the only reason why I was so furious but also because I got a ticket, took time out of my schedule and waited for him because I felt bad for him. When I got home he apologized but I don't think I'm going to pick him up ever again!

Global Warming

Global warming has become a major problem in todays world because of the many things we do that causes the ozone layer to deplete. Due to global warming many companies have come up with manny alternatives to the things we use everyday that are better for the environment. Ten ways to Go Green are:

1. Use cast iron pans instead of nonstick.
2. To avoid chemical leaching into food, go easy on processed, canned or fast foods and never microwave plastic.
3. Buy organic, or eat vegetables and fruit.
4. Buy organic house cleaning products.
5. REDUCE. REUSE. RECYCLE.
6. Drive hybrid cars.
7. Rely more on city transportation.
8. Buy eco-friendly clothing brands
9. Do';t use aerosol cans.
10. NEVER litter!

If everyone used some of these alternatives the world would be a healthier place. It would have a huge impact on the rapid increase of our global warming issue.

Cults,Religion and Mind Control

Laying in my bed Saturday morning being too lazy to get up, I turned my television on. I flipped through the channels searching for a good movie and found on E! True Hollywood Story a documentary on Cults,Religion and Mind Control. I stayed in bed and watched the documentary for an hour. I couldn't believe how in this century these horrible things were still happening. Living in America, the Cult leaders say they are free to worship any god. One specific story was about a 14 year old girl,Elissa Wall from Eldoraldo,Texas who was forced to "marry" her first cousin. The cult leader Warren Jeff held a secret wedding ceremony in a nearby motel room. Elissa said that she asked her cult leader if she could get out of marrying him because she knew it wasn't right,he refused to marry her off to anyone else. Elissa now 21 has freed herself from the cult and its leader to find her new life. How could anyone subject themselves to these horrific situations and think it is right? Elissa is one of hundreds from her religion to stand up for herself, seek help and realize that all of what she had learned to believe in was wrong. Elissa recently wrote a novel on her horrific experiences called "Stolen Innocence". I'm very eager to read this novel because I found the documentary incredibly interesting.

Isles of Capri

This past summer I traveled to Italy with my mother, sister and aunt. We flew out of JFK and landed in the heart of Rome. We stayed in a beautiful hotel that had balconies that overlooked the busy city. We took day trips to different parts of Italy everyday, we were always on the run! One of my most favorite parts we traveled to was the Isles of Capri. This part of Italy was breathtaking, it was the most gorgeous place I could ever dream of, let alone actually be there. The ocean was a blueish green color and you could see the ocean floor about 10 feet down. I sat on the beach all day,as the Mediterranean waves hit the rocks I was hit with a refreshing splash. The beach was made up of all rocks, I felt the sun glistening off of my body and thought how lucky I was to be there. This was truly an experience of a lifetime and I am blessed that I have experienced it. I wish I could live there!

In the fall...

I love the fall.Watching leaves fall to the floor for a new beginning is a perfect way to start off the new year for school. I love the fall because my birthday is in the fall. I also love the fall because of Halloween,my favorite holiday. I love going to the country in the fall because the leaves are beautiful colors orange brown and red. The air smells so crisp in the fall. Since I was young every year fall has been the best time of year for me. I like to go up to my Grandmothers house in the Pocono mountains and go horse back riding. I also like going apple and pumpkin picking. The clothes in the fall are also great because you can wear boots and a light jacket and I love that look. I can't imagine living in a place like Florida where there is no fall, how boring. New York is amazing in the autum!

Never want to grow up!

I have recently had the pleasure to spend the day with and babysit my little cousins, Justine, 6 years old and Jaclyn, 3 years old. Both little girls reminded me that the world isn't so serious, that everyday is a blessing and that you shouldn't take the litte things for granted. As I spent the day with them, I studied and learned how beautiful it is to be a child. Being that young makes everything seem so pleasant. I watched Justine and Jaclyn pick flowers, play dress up and play with their dolls pretending to be mothers. When you're a child the simplest things make you happy and you appreciate life more. As people get older they lose the bliss for the little things in life and you don't see how you had to learn to walk, talk, eat and do anything by yourself. The little things in life such as picking flowers is what most of this world is missing. The appreciation of the earth we live on and admiration of the beauty of it is missing in this world. Remember when you were younger and you saw a rainbow? You were automatically amazed at how it had appeared. Now when you see a rainbow, you look at it for 5 seconds and run back into your crazy hectic world. Being around children made me realize that at one point of my life I actually was amazed by the little things. What I still don't understand is why little girls want to grow up. Playing dolls pretending to be mothers was the most fun, well for me it was and watching my little cousins play I assume it is for them as well. Taking on responsibilities is something no one wants however; being a little girl helping set the table and doing chores is fun. I am now appreciating the feeling of being young and never want to grow up!

My life in the eyes of the stars*

I'm first going to talk about what truly and undeniably makes me happy, because of my sun sign I like to get along with everyone. I like equality, peace and people. I think forming partnerships, being diplomatic and caring about people is the way you should live life and therefore everyone will like you. I care about what people think too much and now know most people know what you are thinking if they have water signs in their charts. I like to match and wear lots of colors. Fashion isn't my main concern in life but I adore clothes and different styles. i am always writing my thoughts down and reading between the lines of things when it comes to people. This is because my mercury is in Scorpio. I am intuitive and can solve mysteries. I also like order and routine due to the fact that my moon is in Virgo. I am searching for a partner because of my sun sign and with Venus in Virgo that means someone who is perfect in my eyes. They must fit into my world and be likeable to my friends and family, who I think is perfect in my own judgment. I am happy when things are done complete and as perfect as they can possibly be. When all of my Virgo demands are fulfilled I feel balanced over all. The need to write down all I learn and what makes me happy are my Scorpio moon tendencies. I want to get to the bottom of my happiness and that also will help me to be good to the world and everyone around me. I hate feeling hopeless, that's the worst feeling in the world. I look to my family for happiness and support. Being alone scares me; I always need a friend by my side. I don't like people who push me to do things I'm not happy doing. I like to do things on my own time. Maybe I am wrong or maybe that annoys people but I can't help it, that's me! I like a job that is not too demanding yet if it is hopefully it is one that I enjoy. Being home everyday is boring to me, I always have to be on the run.
